Moving to Australia!

Moving to Australia!

I can't believe it but I have packed up my life, and rehomed much of it, and moved to Australia.

Northern Tasmania to be exact. We explored this area in 2023 and found nature, craft and creativity. This is the perfect place to set up a new workshop, raise a family and start to work more closely with nature.

It's been just a couple of weeks and I am still finding my feet. The jewellery collection will change, most of my cast items will be discontinued. I am excited to do more engraving, I have only scratched the surface of that wonderful craft and have so much to learn.

I am so sad to have left the wonderful Poole Printmaker's and though I have already found an amazing wood workshop in Ulverstone, I haven't found a printmaking collective with the same access. Luckily, I have brought a printing press with me! It's daunting but I am excited to explore that medium and finally find my "style".

Beyond the crafts I already practice, I have been learning to spin. I was initially looking for something to keep my hands busy in the evenings, silently while watching TV. In my first year as a mother I joined the Dorset Guild of Spinners Weavers and Dyers. I didn't just learn to spin but met women full of wisdom and comfort, in Tasmania there are spinning guilds and meeting scattered along the coast, I am excited to find the same guardians here.

My longer term vision is to spin washed fleece, dye it and weave warm and soft blankets for my family and friends. I may also sell them when my skill is up to scratch, watch this space but expect a slow journey.

You can find me on instagram and tiktok as @coops.artist I'll be sharing this rollercoaster journey on there, join me for the ride.
